A night of superlatives unfolded for Managing Director Heide Perndorfer at the glamorous World Luxury Awards 2025 gala, held at the InterContinental Barcelona. Now in its 19th year, the event celebrates the finest in hospitality across hotels, spas and restaurants worldwide.
Mount Med Resort was nominated for all three awards in three categories each and succeeded in taking home one Global Award in each, along with several Continent and Western Europe honours.
The surprise of the evening came with the announcement of the Overall Special Awards of the Year: Mount Med Resort’s Medical Spa was awarded the 2025 World Luxury Spa of the Year trophy – one of the most internationally coveted accolades. This prestigious honour marks a major milestone for the resort’s unique concept and the exceptional performance of its team, achieved so soon after opening.

With the title Global Spa of the Year 2025, Mount Med Resort underscores its position as an international leader in the field of medical wellness and longevity – a destination where science, prevention and excellence come together in perfect harmony.
The World Luxury Awards 2025 were presented on 25 October at the InterContinental Barcelona – marking the 19th occasion on which the international elite of the hotel, spa and restaurant industries gathered for this prestigious celebration of excellence.
Founded in 2006 by former hotelier Brandon Lourens in South Africa, the World Luxury Awards were created as an international platform to honour and spotlight pioneers and outstanding contributors within the world of high-end hospitality. Over the past 19 years, the awards have evolved into a sophisticated evaluation process that goes far beyond infrastructure alone. In addition to design and facilities, judges assess the concept, originality, quality of execution and service excellence. As guest expectations and industry trends continue to evolve, so too has the awards’ rating system. Today, the awards span a growing portfolio: the World Luxury Hotel Awards (since 2006), World Luxury Spa Awards (since 2010), World Luxury Restaurant Awards (since 2015), and World Luxury Travel Awards (since 2020).
The nomination process begins with properties applying in the categories that best reflect their individual strengths and distinctive offerings. Based on verified guest reviews, the World Luxury Commission then selects the nominees, followed by a three-week public voting phase in which international travellers, guests and industry experts cast their votes. Awards are presented at global, continental, regional and national levels – with the Overall Winner of the Year award serving as the ceremonial highlight of each gala evening.
